Eligibility

  • To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
    ✅ The applicant must identify as female or non-binary
    ✅ Applicants must be 18 or older
    ✅ Applicant must be part of the Free Networking Space of the Female Film Club
    ✅ Film must be a short (max 30 minutes) — any genre welcome
    ✅ Submit a:

1. script (max 35 pages)

2. budget 

3. Character Prototype (made through IMGN.AI)

4. Script Coverage (Automatically done through IMGN.AI)

5. Cast and Crew bio of people already attached

6. Expected timeline of project



🌍 Open to international applicants. All materials must be submitted in English.

FAQ

What is the timeline?

 

  • Early Bird submissions  26 May =  £30 
  • Standard submissions  27 June = £40 
  • Late submissions 8 August =  £50 
  • Fund closing 5 September


 THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT OUR EXCLUSIVE CELEBRATION PARTY DURING THE BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER ✨ 


💡 All fees help support the €10K fund and exposure opportunities for finalists.

Do I have to be based in the UK or EU?

No. This is a global fund open to filmmakers anywhere in the world.

What if my budget is higher than 10.000 Euro?

The budget is allowed to be higher than the grant. To ensure the film gets made the filmmaker needs to have all additional funding in place on Sept 8th. So if they have a budget of 14k Euro they need to have 4K in place Sept 5th. If they still need to secure 4K then they won't qualify as they cannot guarantee they will get the funding/resources and therefor the film might not get made. 

What happens if I’m shortlisted or selected?

You’ll receive the grant, media exposure, mentorship, and more. The final winner will be announced at our FFC BFI event in October 2026.

How does judging process work?

The winner will be chosen by independent judges, all established in the film industry. Judges will be announced this summer.

Can I add other funds to complete the film?

Yes, however all funding should be confirmed by 12th September.

When does the project needs to be shot by?

There needs to be a realistic plan in place to finish the film by October 2027.

First Draft

First Draft is a boutique production company dedicated to bold, emotionally intelligent, female-led storytelling across film and international co-productions. FAQ around eligibility

Is my film eligible if it's already in post-production?

Yes! Films in post-production are eligible. Whether you're in the middle of colour grading, sound editing, or finishing your film, you can still apply. Just make sure to clearly outline where your project currently stands and how the fund would help you bring it to completion.

Can I submit a proof-of-concept short for a feature film I'm developing?

Yes, if you're developing a feature and want to direct a short as a proof of concept, that's welcome. The script you submit should be for the short film itself, (not the full feature screenplay!) it needs to work as a standalone short. We love supporting filmmakers who are using short film as a pathway into features.

What genres are eligible?

All genres are welcome — narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, etc.
🚫 Note: Music videos are not eligible.

Can I apply alone?

 Yes — and you may fulfil multiple roles (e.g., writer/director/producer), we understand that it might take time to get a full team on board so every applicant can apply without a team.
